Orthodontics

What's orthodontia?

Orthodontics (or Dento-Facial Orthopedics) corresponds to the study and correction of the position of teeth and jaws, using different devices: functional devices, braces, invisalign aligners, etc.

Orthodontics is thus interested in an aesthetic and functional improvement, with the objectives of restoring

  • good chewing function

  • good alignment, to facilitate brushing and prevent cavities or periodontal disorders

  • a harmonious smile, an essential element of communication between individuals

Practices of our orthodontic service

  • Child orthodontics including child orthopedics, child interceptive orthodontics, classical child and adolescent orthodontics (vestibular multi-attachment orthodontics, and child Invisalign), and finally the child's preprosthetic orthodontics.

  • Orthodontics for adults including invisible orthodontics, cosmetic orthodontics using the Invisalign technique for adults, vestibular esthetic orthodontics, preprosthetic orthodontics for adults and finally pre-surgical orthodontics for adults or the young adult.

The Ton Dentiste orthodontics department is equipped with a state-of-the-art radiology device, which enables conventional orthodontic radiography (cephalometric and dental panoramic) to be taken within the clinic. These photos are essential diagnostic elements for orthodontic treatments for children and adults. They guide the practitioner in particular on the movements to be expected during the treatment. The installation of this radiology equipment within the clinic facilitates and allows immediate diagnosis. The patient no longer needs to move to another establishment, which represents for our patients precious time savings and comfort.

Child orthodontics

Child orthodontics represents an important part of the activity of our orthodontics service. The techniques have been simplified, reducing pain and allowing children better cooperation in orthodontics. A first orthodontic consultation is necessary at a young age to detect a narrow upper jaw, prognathism, retrognathism, lack of space, and malpositions or anterior open bite. Interceptive child orthodontics makes it possible to correct skeletal and functional anomalies (atypical swallowing, tongue thrust, digital suction ...) in the first phase of treatment. In a second step, the multi-attachment child orthodontics (braces) makes it possible to correct the dentoalveolar malpositions, allowing to obtain an optimal occlusion and esthetics. An alternative to multi-attachment treatment in child orthodontics is the "Invisalign Teen" technique which allows teeth to be aligned without braces and to carry out orthodontic treatment of children and adolescents in an aesthetic and almost invisible manner. A retention phase is necessary at the end of the child's orthodontic treatment, to stabilize the results.

Adult orthodontics

Our orthodontics service in Sainte Marthe sur le lac treats a large number of adult orthodontic patients who either have not benefited from previous orthodontic treatment or who present a relapse from previous treatment that wasn't stabilized properly.

The complexity of adult orthodontics lies in the presence of possible extractions and / or restorations and / or abrasions of the dental surfaces, thus complicating the treatment plan and the technical difficulty.

Dr. Laurent Oiknine at Ton Dentiste, is at the forefront of modern technologies that allow invisible and aesthetic adult orthodontics to be practiced. Adult orthodontics can resolve prognathism, retrognathism, narrow jaws, dental obstructions and rotations as well as dental mesioversions (Pre-prosthetic orthodontics in adults). Adult orthodontics represents a large part of the activity of our orthodontic service, in particular due to the development of invisible and aesthetic orthodontic techniques.

Invisalign technique

Invisalign is an aesthetic orthodontic technique which allows invisible orthodontic treatment to be carried out through the use of a number of invisible transparent aligners.

The success of the Invisalign treatment depends on the number of hours of wearing of each series of invisible aligners, i.e. 300 hours every two weeks, or approximately 20 hours per day.

Orthodontics by Invisalign is mainly used in adult orthodontic treatment. The invisible and aesthetic Invisalign technique can in a number of well-chosen cases be used in child orthodontics to treat serious and cooperative adolescents.

Advances in research now make it possible to treat a very large number of cases using the Invisalign technique, we can even treat surgical cases using the Invisalign technique. It is now possible to carry out axis adjustments in Invisalign technique as well as to treat open bite and overbite cases.
