Dental implant

When one or more teeth are missing, and you want to rebuild yoursmile or replace a tooth, the installation of a dental implant may be the solution for you.
It is an artificial titanium root which is inserted under the gum and which will serve as support for the crown on dental implant.

How is the installation of a dental implant carried out?

The dental implant is an artificial root anchored in the bone, which replaces an absent or lost natural root, on which a dental crown is placed. It allows the replacement of one or more missing teeth and also allows to fix a denture for increased comfort and stability.

The absence of a tooth unbalances the whole dentition. Thus, a true aesthetic transformation, the dental implant is above all the possibility of recovering a quality of life on a daily basis.

After the intervention, expect some swelling, but you can usually resume your normal activities the next day.

Analgesics will be prescribed for a few days. The installation of dental implants cannot be improvised, a thorough analysis is made to tailor to each person's case. The pre-implant visit is essential for the proper progress of the intervention.

During this consultation, the surgeon takes account of the medical history and assesses the clinical situation in the mouth by taking impressions and by prescribing a scanner in order to be able to assess bone volume and density as well as anatomical structures in relation with the implants to be placed.

The placement of dental implants at the Ton Dentiste Dental Center is an act performed under local anesthesia, with accompanying oral sedatives. You will not feel anything, and will have the impression of floating on a cloud during the intervention. Thereafter, a professional follow-up will be done during the few months when the implants integrate into your jaw bone.

Implant placement technique to replace a tooth

This technique consists of placing an artificial root made of titanium, a biocompatible material, which will be integrated to the maxillary bone, and on which a crown will then be placed. This implant prosthesis allows the replacement of one or more teeth.

If, due to the absence of the tooth, the bone has been resorbed, the dental surgeon performs bone grafting before placing the dental implant.

Prior to the intervention, the dentist performs extensive radiological investigations. Thanks to the scanner, your dentition is modeled in three dimensions to define the place of the dental implant for optimal adaptation.

The impression is then processed by computer and transmitted for production of the prosthesis to our partner laboratory.

Prostheses are made in Quebec.

There are other solutions to replace one or more teeth. The installation of a dental appliance or bridge makes it possible to replace missing or very damaged teeth.

The installation of a dental bridge (or dental bridge) consists in prepping the teeth on either side of the missing tooth, to serve as support for the intermediate tooth which will be welded to the neighboring teeth.
This corresponds to several crowns welded together.

The installation of a removable device consists in taking the impression of the dental arch to make a device which will be supported on the neighboring teeth by means of hooks.

The disadvantage of these methods is the damage the neighboring support teeth to replace the tooth or teeth to be replaced. Today these methods are obsolete compared to the success and reliability of dental implants.

Replacing teeth with dental implants is the long-term solution for regaining your smile, chewing and self-confidence. This is the solution we recommend to the Ton Dentiste Dental Center.

The dental implant and its crown resemble a real tooth and fit perfectly in the mouth. You will even forget their presence and will have the sensation that they are natural teeth! A smile with dental implants is like a natural smile!

Aesthetic

Saving tissue: support from adjacent teeth is no longer necessary to replace a missing tooth, as is the case with traditional bridges.

Safety

Implant technology and technique are now proven and safe when they are well indicated. The implants are very resistant and biocompatible.

Self-confidence

Implants give the patient self-confidence, smile and interaction with others. The dental implant makes it possible to benefit from fixed prostheses, much more comfortable than a removable device. We feel free and confident. No more prosthetic glues, the fear that the prosthesis will not hold if you sneeze or laugh too hard. With implants, you can laugh out loud, you can eat, talk, laugh and fully enjoy life and its pleasures… in short, you can enjoy life to the fullest!

Longevity

The dental implant has an excellent lifespan, provided that the rules of hygiene and maintenance are respected. Implants have a very long lifespan, up to several decades. The crowns on the implants have an average lifespan of 10 years to 20 years.

The advantages of the dental implant

Bone support

A less well-known consequence of patients losing their teeth and not replacing them is the loss of bone support. Indeed, the bone loses in height and its structure changes. This deterioration, which takes place over the long term, can compromise the subsequent replacement of the missing tooth: in fact, for the implant to be placed, sufficient bone volume must be available. This will be assessed by a 3D scanner which will determine the quality and quantity of the bone. If there is not enough bone, a bone graft can fill this defect and allow to find an adequate volume for the implantation. However, it is best to avoid this kind of situation by replacing any missing teeth as soon as possible.
